Hi, I’ll be live-tweeting today's Wayne County Commission meeting for #DETdocumenters @DetDocumenters media partners: @BridgeDet313 @chalkbeatDET @freep @metrotimes @Michigan_Public @media_outlier @PlanetDetroit @wdet @wxyzdetroit
09:23 AM May 9, 2024 CDT
@DetDocumenters @BridgeDet313 @chalkbeatDET @freep @metrotimes @michigan_public @media_outlier @PlanetDetroit @wdet @wxyzdetroit I joined about 20 minutes late due to a miscommunication on start time--sorry folks! Looks like a presentation by the Secretary of State is going on. They discussed license efforts, and now are talking about voting.
Presenter mentions that all returning citizens are also given an ID and given the chance to register to vote.
Presenter says the "most important" reason she's here today is to appeal to people to fight misinformation. She talks about equipping residents to combat misinformation, training election workers, councils to combat misinformation.
Presenter was SOS Jocelyn Benson. (She wasn't visible on screen for the presentation). This was her first time presenting for the Wayne County Commission.
Vice Chair Pro Tempore Baydoun asks about predicted turnout. Benson references high turnout in 2020, predicting similar results.
Another member asks if any paperwork or anything has to be filed for providing rides. Benson says no, and they're working with Uber/Lyft for free rides

Next is report from committees. I will not report on each individual, but will highlight anything significant. See the agenda for all here:
…ntersprodassets.blob.core.windows.net/uploads/2024/0…
They are not going through each item. "I move items one through ten." No discussion, but they insisted at the beginning that each item was "heavily vetted" in committee.
The commission stops to highlight the JustAir contract which will be monitoring air quality.
Highlights for John Serda as they recommend approval for him as the Deputy Director of the Homeland Security & Emergency Management Department.
Other business: single source contracts and if they require a letter proving single source, contract for digitalizing items for the prosector's items.
Testimonial resolutions, certificates of appreciations, and memoriams. See the agenda (listed above) for the complete list.
Public comment: Has been reporting a business for fraud for a year to Wayne County and SOS. Concerned about deed fraud.
The second commenter is speaking directly to the first. Talks about a deed protection program. Says people in Detroit need to be enrolled in deed protection if they're concerned. First commenter is writing back in the comments.
Commissioners are talking about the youth commission. Meanwhile, the two commenters concerned about deed fraud and notarization are continuing to go back and forth in the comments.
Meeting adjourned at 11:21 p.m. This concludes the Wayne County Commissioner's meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for May 23, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. For more meeting coverage, check out .
